"Becoming
a Man is a
roller coaster ride through your heart, your soul, and your genitals.
Scott Turner Schofield
is one of my favorite performing artists, and I can't wait to
see this daring young man step out onto the stage with this
one."

In
"Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps," the audience is
as important as the performer. Invited into the world of a childhood
fort, where secrets become stories and every story has time
to be told, the audience picks which of 127 autobiographical
stories they want to hear in this "Choose Your Own Adventure"
solo play. Of course they can't hear all 127....
The
stories focus on Schofield's transition from female to male,
exploring his origins, childhood, and young life as a transgender
person; Sometimes funny, sometimes shocking in their frank emotional
honesty, these wildly original theatrical performances last
from 30 seconds to five minutes and give audiences a view into
the many parts of a person that make up the whole.

In
creating his third professional work, Schofield challenged his
own aesthetic to grow as a performer. He undertook aerial acrobatics
on fabric to add a physical dimension to his storytelling, setting
it apart from "talking head" solo theater. The eerie
anti-gravity beauty of this movement form, combined with video
projections and the enclosed physical space of the fort create
a breathtaking intimacy that is risky, personal,
and brimming with possibility.
